Well done all. It's tough here at the bottom of the food chain. But one day. . .

This is challenge #24 of 2012. It is also the last one I’ll be setting for a few weeks as I have bird-ringing commitments in Venda. On 20th of June, pantera leo will post challenge #25. The challenge for 27th of June will be posted by adrianp and the one for 4th of July will be done by Lizet Grobbelaar.

We are indebted to these kind ‘mites for ensuring the challenges continue unfailingly.

I thought the last few challenges were far too easy, so this one has been tweaked up a notch...

TWISTS

#1 – Roughly three percent of its total South African population officially carry “pet names”. Which species am I referring to?

#2 – Three of our featured birds all have distributions limited to the same area in South Africa, which birds are these?

#3 – One of the featured species is part of Greek folklore. It inadvertently caused the death of a famous playwright. How?

Enjoy!

Enjoy Venda, Jvr - it's much warmer than the "pits"

Have just sent in our answers for #23, but doubt if we can do the next two as are away for two weeks.

Thanks so much JvR for #24 and thanks to the mites who are stepping in and setting the challenges for when JvR is away
