Yes - we at Nossob at the beginning of May and saw how those poor unsespecting guys on the sites I mentioned struggled -

When looking at the current rainfall figures for Nossob we are already at 180 mm for the yearly rain season (Dec - April/May?). Average is ~ 200 - 213mm which means according to averages it should not rain than much in March. Records can also be set for this year so the best is to be prepared and expect rain for a day or two, but I do not think you will get the same weather pattern as for the Garden Route.

The 180mm rainfall might be for the whole of the Nossob section measured at different areas in over 200 000 hectares.

Due to the weather patterns which are surely changing and information gathered by the local people we are still expecting much needed rain and it seems that our rains have moved on by a month or so.

Guests can still expect some rain in the next two months.

I have heard so much about the Kalahari thunder storms. I would like to expereince one.

Let's hope you do. They are most impressive. Especially afterwards, splashing through the 'puddles'.

A question to the powers that be.
Is it still possible to request a specific bungalow at the KTP camps?

The reason for my question is that during Feb/Mar this year on arrival at Kalahari Tented Camp we did not get the tent we had requested.
We got no 8.The one with the tree in front that obscures the waterhole.
As the camp was fairly empty I enquired about moving and was told by the camp attendant that instructions had been issued that once a tent has been allocated by the computer,this could not be changed.
Fair enough.

After numerous visits to Grootkolk and trying in vain to get No 1,I was overjoyed to be told that the computer had in fact allocated us no 1 for one of our upcoming visits during Oct/Nov 2012.
We would be in no 3 this time round.

I got this info at Nossob reception enroute to Grootkolk during our Feb/Mar 2012 visit.

Will hold thumbs that this is in fact the case.

Unfortunately instructions have been given that requested units within the park can't be booked in advanced, as mentioned by other staff the systems allocates units.

We visited KTP again in March this year. Don't hold your breath about staying in the unit that the computer allocated to you
We stayed at Urikaruus at the beginning of our trip and then again half way through our trip. On leaving after our first stint we were told that when we next return we will be in unit No 3 as per computer allocation. Great, we were happy However, when we returned a week later we were placed in No 4 So, sometimes it seems the operators behind the computers make changes. We have learnt that as with everything, things change Go along as you would for animal sightings.... with no expectations, you will sure have a great time

It has happened as you mentioned and the reason behind that is that if for some reason a unit has to be closed for maintenance or whatever reason we do change it on the system. Only when the maintenance on a the unit is finished they do re-open the unit on the system but the system does not then change the booking back to the previous unit number.

I have never been here before so is 4 nights enought?
What are the 4x4 routes like - my main reason for asking is we will be travelling to KTP after this for a long trip so the van will be loaded and heavy and do not want to risk any damage?
Would you do KNP or MZNP?

We recently visited both MZNP & KNP -have a look at my TR here:-

We enjoyed both, but I did develop a soft spot for MZNP - both are unique in their own right.
I only did one of the 4x4 routes (Juriesdam - MZNP) - RTT on top - no problem.
4 Days would be my minimum recommendation - no matter which one you choose.
