Dominant croc will chase the intruder by biting an roaring. Non dominant normally leave the water with dominant croc in persuit but the dominant will not leave the water. Serious figting may occur at times.

I would think the coiling is a sign of defense, and may suggest it is ready to retaliate in the way it usually ambushes its prey?

This animal is responsible for a large percentage of deaths of domestic animals and even humans in areas such as Kruger National Park, the Lowveld and KZN.
