This is a poll to gauge how you, our forum members, feel about the moderators listing members who are are banned, and the period of the ban, in a locked topic on the forums.

Should the names of members who are banned be made public on the forums while the ban is effective?

I would say yes, but subject to the consent of the member involved, as privacy law comes into play. I also think it would be cause for speculation as to the reason(s) for banning, which might not be a fruitful exercise/opening up another hornests' nest. Just my 0,00002c worth.

JMO, I don't think names should be made public by Sanparks, but the banned forumite should be given the option to reveal they have been banned and perhaps why, as long as it is done in a way that does not solicit forumites to draw battle lines. We have enough fall outs as it is.

Personally, I amazed at some of the complaints on this Forum. Some of those with a thin skin should try working in investment banking.

I voted no, as it is against the spirit of a rule to discuss/speak on behalf of banned members, I think!?

So maybe change the rule?

I voted yes, cause, well, at least you guys are willing to put a poll up for such a tender topic. But, maybe have those bannned allowed to just post their feelings here, obviously cencored by the mods, what the feelings is from them.

I voted yes, simply so I don't find myself asking "whatever happened to so-and-so??" and finding out that I've wandered outside the perimeter.

I think it would also help put the banning frequency perception to bed. Even with the recent grouping of dearly departed, banning non-spammers seems to be a very rare thing. My 2 cents US (which is getting weaker by the day)

If I were banned, I would like all my forum friends to know the reason I am not here, is not because I don't like the forums, but rather that it was forced

Sure it might open up a hornets nest, but it will be a more transparent system

I voted no. If it was my name in question, I would not like my name appearing on an open forum. I know that when I am banned, I do not have access on the forum and therefore, I would not have the opportunity to defend the interpretation as to what led to my banning.

For me personally, it's how precious people are. This just feels like a NAME AND SHAME procedure. A procedure where I will receive a label as to whatever I did wrong. There are labels that just don't get forgotten.

If the peeps that were banned, can be given the opportunity to vote, I do not think they would all vote YES. Even if you KNOW in your heart you have been treated unjustly, banning is not something we print in Bold letters. Forgive me for raising my honest opinion and feeling the hurt of some peeps.

I love the Poll system and maybe this is a great leap forward. Maybe we can start addressing other questions in this way.

.. people are not "just banned", there is a process involving warnings
.. everyone who comes onto the forum signs onto a code of conduct. A violation of that code is a choice made by that particular person
.. we do not use our real names, this ensures a certain amount of privacy. Unfortunately it has also given some people carte blanche to "act out" like delinquents.
.. I have been witness to some of the damage done by some members. Goodwill is dearly bought and when lost, it might be forever.
.. there is a perception in some quarters that the mods are "power drunk" and "enjoy" weilding a stick. This perception needs to be challenged.

Accountability is a much needed feature to ensure good governance.

I would say, if this becomes a feature in the forums, that it is clearly stipulated in
the rules.

I have voted yes. Most of us conceal our true identity by using user-names, so there are no real privacy/identity issues here.

For instance, when I'm banned and my user-name is linked to a ban, who is going to know who TheunsH really is and the masses who don't know me would in any case not feel anything about it!?

Just a question for the mods, when you "name and shame" the members, do you mean you will post their real names on the forums, or just the forum names?

Posting someone else's real name is against the rules so no, only forum names.

Just forum names. We do not know all the members' real names, nor to have access to them.
