So big that other professional sites need to steal

Well it appears there are more websites who believe the forum to be a source of free stock photos…

On this page I recognize 3 of my photos and there are also a couple of Dreamer’s photos (all posted in the Grootkolk thread)

All but one of the photos on this page is mine that I posted in the Gharagab thread
http://www.northerncape-direct.com/ghar ... rness-camp

And my SO is starting to feel like a supermodel with his backside being posted all over the web….

Registered at Enom.com...

As is Krugerpark.com. And the layout is about 90% the same, so I think the same owner.

Thank you for your quick reply.

Unfortunately for KrugerPark.com the story doesn't end there from my perspective. They have been using my copyrighted material on a commercial web site. I've sent them an invoice for the images that they have been using. Should they decide not to pay this invoice then I will unfortunately be forced to take legal action against them.

Well done, Madach!!!

A quote from the Terms and Conditions on the Accommodation Direct website (source)

Quote:
5. Copyright
…….
5.3 www.northerncape-direct.com claims copyright to the electronic images of the photographic material supplied by advertisers, excepting photographs pertaining to the South African National Parks which have been clearly marked as the property of SANParks.

Having a closer look, at the bottom of the photos, they indicate that the photos is copyright by SANParks….BUT……now the question, does the photos we post on the forum become the property of SANParks? No it does not. I love sharing information through my photos on the SANParks forum….but I don’t really like the idea that these photos then end up being used on commercial websites.

It is as Duco said
But "stealing" pictures from the net is very difficult to control and any
person being "clever" can steal from the net.
Its great being able to share info but its just as easy to steal

The question of where the copyright resides is dependent of the website you use to host your images. If the hosting platform states that by uploading the images you transfer copyright, or something in that direction, to them then it becomes a grey area. In my case I host these pictures myself so there is no question of where the copyright resides.

Thanks Madach …good to know this!!

My photos are hosted on Flickr and each photo is marked as copyright - all rights reserved…this should be fine??? :?
I wonder how it works with a site like tinypic?

Thanks Admin! Copyright of photos is a very serious matter. Thanks also to Jumbo for raising this important issue, and to both Jumbo and Madach for providing useful information about possible loopholes depending upon where pix are hosted.

I do think that websites like krugerpark.com (and there are many others) that try to present themselves as being the "official" park website are very worrying and misleading indeed — particularly for first time and overseas visitors who won't know that SANParks is the official name of the SA national parks system. I'd thought that SANParks had procedures in place to prevent the use of such misleading domain/website names?
