Hi and welcome on the forum Chiraaz,

we are just back from a 2 weeks stay in Kruger. And the main road to Berg en dal can be very productive.
We saw ellies buffs but also a large pack of wild dogs. We can recommend the S114 and S25 (unfortunatelly the bridge near Biyamiti is still closed..... ) but good chance for lions. We saw 4 beautifull big male lions in the early morning. The s118 and S119 with Gardeniahide, are very nice to do. Leopard area but also rhino's.
Steilberg is a beatifull road to do but we were not very lucky with sightings, just zebra's.
Have a nice trip!!

Your best option is to follow the BnD sightings thread on this forum. Raymond gives regular updates as to what he has seen. One of the most informative sighting threads on the forum.  Hope this helps

This is excellent advice. I would build a 'database' of the info so that you know which are the most likely roads to see what, but anything can be anywhere.

We will be staying at Berg-en-Dal for two days in May and we would like to visit the Gardenia Hide for the first time - how is the sightings there? Is it worthwile to spend some time there? In November last year on our way to exit Kruger at Malelane gate we tried to locate it but we were not successful – perhaps we were too concerned with the road trip back home and time. Thanks

We have been told on more than once that the S25 is really good early in the morning or late in the day. So I would plan your route to do either one or both.

id rate the s118 and s119 as the two best roads around berg en dal, although i have seen wild dogs countless of times on the H3 between the s110 tar turn off and Afsaal picnic spot. keep a look out for leopard around the area that the h3 crosses over the matjulu river. good luck!

We recently stayed at the Berg-en-Dal camp and we could see why it won the camp of the year award. The camp is really well managed

We recently spent 17 days in the KNP, starting in bungalow 61 in Olifants, all good, 7 days in Balule camping site no 8 excellent thanks to Titus who smiles and makes one feel welcome, 5 days in Satara camping was good but the facilities so-so the male ablution block no 2 shocking - this was attended to and rectified after two days , the kitchen next to the ablution block filthy bird droppings all over, cleaned up after three days, enough has been said elsewhere about the so called restaurant, then to Berg & Dal and what a well kept camp this is.

Reception staff are friendly, the shop is what one would expect it to be, neat well stocked and smiling faces.

Unit 26 was spotless, I can well understand why B&D is again the rest camp of the year.

Have a look on the camp website and you will see friendly, happy smiling faces thanks to all of you, keep it that way.

The sightings around B&D were very good, I posted my Genet photos taken in the camp about two years ago, we sighted Wild dog, Leopard, Rhino, Elephant Buffalo, and Lion on our recent trip. We sighted Cheetah close to the Malelane camp a few years ago, some beautiful Kudu, Steenbok, Ground Hornbills and plenty more.

My advice to anyone especially first timers - visit Berg & Dal for at least two days, you will fall in love with this place and return again and again.

Lanette and I will most definitely visit this camp again, just a pity it is so far from the northern region of the KNP.

We, so and self have booked 3 nights at BED in november, we visited last year and loved it, now for some advice pleaso;- my so emailed the camp on the 9th to reserve bung. no 27 but as yet have had no reply. should we receive a reposnse or do we just assume the bungalow will be kept for us? This may be our last visit to SA, age, health and finance the main culprits and we wanted a perimeter bungalow so we can really make the best of this trip.

We have been visiting SA anualy since 1994 and have fallen in love with your beautiful country and no visit is complete without some time in the Kruger, its not just the animals and birds but the whole experience I just love seeing the sky at night and the mass of stars and listening to the sounds of the night. Just 19 weeks to go :D :D :D
