I saw one drinking water at Makhohlolo in KNP. It actually squats by sitting on its bottom part of its legs. It is correct that it sucks and does not scoop the water up.

Saw 5 this past weekend. All in the Satara area. They were not eager to pose for pics though. Will see if I did manage to capture one when I work through my pics.

During our last trip in February we saw Kori Bustards on the S100 on two occasions. This one I however photographed in Mapungubwe in September 2005

For Kori's one should go to KTP, you see plenty there!

They can indeed fly:

They don't like to fly, and the ones that I have 'encouraged' to do so were not too keen

I think we had good luck during our visit to KNP from the 03-13sep this year as we observed 6 Kori Bustard's. 3 birds by the S28 approx 10-12k's N of Crocodile Bridge Gate 04sep, 1 by the H1-4 approx. 8 k's north of Satara 10sep, and 2 by the H7 not to fare from the Nsemani Dam 11sep.

This photo is from one of the birds by the S28.

Some info on Kori Bustards if anyone can give please. I seem to think that at some stage they were one of the protected species of birds and that if possible sightings of them were requested to be reported. Is that still he case? They are extremely interesting to watch and they still remain a cool sighting when spotted , especially in flight. Thanx 8)
