Lower Sabie Day 1 continued... :D

Back on the road again by 2.30pm headed for another famous cat hot spot, the S128

Well, we didn't see any cats :(
But how could we unless they walked out onto the road??
The grass was thick and high as far as the eye could see...
Image

Thankfully, we had a great run of bird sightings

Our first ever ostrich!!
Image
Image

I took a little video of the ostrich pecking around in the grass :D

Up ahead we saw vultures circling and as we got closer there were about a dozen vultures on the side of the road with the remains of a kill
Alas we were a day or two late for all that action

Still, vultures are very impressive birds and provided some great photo opportunities :cam:

Even though Dad and I so wanted to see cats, how could we not simply just appreciate being in Kruger? 8)
The scenery was just so beautiful and so Africa!!
Image

Next we saw a brown snake eagle??? :hmz:
Image

And then WOW, our first ever secretary bird!!!
Image

He/she was difficult to see in the tall grass, but we were thrilled 8) 8)
Especially as we also heard the bird "calling". At first I thought it was some kind of cat growling.
I didn't expect such a sound to come from a bird

We were delighted when it came out into a little clearing for us
Image

And then it walked out onto the road for us!!

:yaya: Mel!

Love the birds, all of them - how lucky you were to get such a great shot of the secretary bird and ostrich. Kingfisher too!

Birds are beautiful, everywhere, all the time, and a big part of African wildlife. The photo of the ellie with vultures in the trees is very africa.

Thanks for all your work on the TR, my friend :k

Mel, just catching up with the TR. some great sightings. The bird life is wonderful. The s128 looks like A different road with the grass soooooo high.

Looking forward to the rest of your adventures.

Lovely Ostriches, Vultures, Snake Eagle and a stunning Secretary bird. I also love the shot with the Vultures in the tree and the huge Ellie in the background! Beautiful!
