Thulamela archaeological site

Unread postby Dionni » Fri Apr 18, 2014 9:09 am

While entering Kruger through Parfuri Gate, do I have to go to Punda Maria to go to the Thulamela site?

I see that the tour starts at Punda Maria at 7 AM. When I want to join at Paifuri picknick site, I suppose it starts later? Is there an exact time for that?

Dionni, I think that it would b best to contact Punda Maria reception. I am only aware of the tour leaving from Punda, not Pafuri. I might be wrong though.

There is not an exact time. There cannot be given the various obstacles and roadblocks that may be encountered on the way. That's even if the picnic spot is a legitimate collection point, which I doubt. Punda and Pafuri are a fair distance apart which complicates the issue.

I think calling the gate or Punda reception ahead of time is very good advice.

Thulamela via Shingwedzi

Unread postby Lepardfan » Wed Jul 09, 2014 1:47 pm

Good day fellow mites.

I need some info/advice.

We are planning to visit Shingwedzi in December. .

I want to Know whether it is possible to visit Thulamela if we are staying in Shingwedzi, or must we stay in PM to visit it? :hmz:

Thulamela is really on my to do list this year, seeing that I have been going to Kruger for about 15 years now, I feel that I can't put this on hold anymore. . This will also be my first time that I will be going up to PM for a day visit.

Thanks.

Just FYI, the 'private camp' was devastated by the 2013 floods and there is no sign of its reopening any time soon. Was Thulamela perhaps also affected by the floods? Or perhaps Punda Maria doesn't have enough staff to offer the tour?

Unfortunately the Thulamela Guided Tour is not operational due to unavailability of the guide/s.
