My forum name was inspired from my passion for cats. My three favourite animals are:
1. Cheetah
2. Serval
3. Caracal or leopard.

What Inspired yours?

I chose "Oumie" because my granddaughter calls me by that name because I am the Afrikaans granny and the other granny is the Scottish granny.

Gosh. I feel terribly ordinary in this debate. My alias doesn't have anything LIKE as interesting a provenance as most of yours (sadly, "Wild" DOESN'T mean "good-looking, witty, sparkling and irrestistible" in Serbo-Croatian, as far as I know).

Just, my name's Steve, and I run the WILD Card programme for SANParks and its programme allies.

Oh, and (truth be told) I have SOMETIMES been known to behave a bit wildly, I suppose.

My alias came from the visit to Punda just before I joined the forum. While we were having our usual braai, I heard a Scops owl calling. I started looking for it. It really took an effort and I almost ended up with a stiff neck. Eventually I saw it.

The next day we went to Babalala picnic spot. On arrival there the guard showed me a Scops Owl, not more than 1 metre away.

With these encounters in mind, I selected my alias. The call of a Scopsie is one of the sounds of the night that says to me: You are in the veld!

Never felt like using an alias. For some or other reason it does not appeal to me, possibly because it makes me feel like "hiding behind something".

Our home was once the summer cottage of a wealthy family, who hade named it 'Edgecliffe' for it's location beside a huge gorge: hence my email address. Edgy is a shortened version, and edgy1 seems to describe my personality pretty well. :D

You might have noticed the change from Macho to Meandering.
I have no sense of direction and have grown used to being in a perpetual state of wondering where the hell I am.
I also often enjoy getting lost, it has lead to some interesting experiences.
The ones on the forum were not that much fun though.

sioux (pronounced sue) is my middle name given to me by my wacky dad who thought I looked like an American Indian at birth - luckily he did not opt for Cherokee!

And from your mugshot we know you don't sport a mohican!

Incidentally, I have mentioned it elsewhere a Brummie is a native of Birmingham - our dialect (and that of the neighbouring Black Country - named from when the smoke from the factories turned everything black) is english - but not as you know it, Jim

I have chosen Kingfisha, but actually wanted to be Kingfisher. But someone already took that one! :(
I LOVE birds and especially the Kingfishers. I took this amazing photo (see left below my name) myself of a malacite close to Shingwedzi and that's my story!

Boorgatspook (Afrikaans name) is a nickname i got in school, well just when i went to high school actually. If maybe you translate it directly into english it would be something like - boreholespook! . And since that time everyone (those that knows it) calls me on my nickname even after school.
