About six months ago I bought Roberts on CD - it has given me endless fun and is a great aid in bird ID (but I still use Sasol and Roberts books to check). Part of the programme is a wonderful section where one can record personal lists, but it has the useful (?) feature that does not allow one to enter birds twice with the result that now that I have a computer controlled list rather than one controlled by human error I lost quite a few birds to errors in recording Roberts numbers, spelling of names etc. I went below my original list but ventured out to Paarl sewage works (my wife's idea) to try to undo the damage a bit and got the list back up a bit and am now on 330.

Anybody else out there suffer the same fate ever?

Pete

Hi Pete (and all others)
The Roberts is a great birding tool, just do yourself a favour and back up your person bird list to cd/ memory stick. it appears that the bird list is saved as part of the program file and if your hard drive craches (as mine did) the bird lists are not amoungst your recovered data......
then you wind up doing it all over again manually....

Happy Birding all

You guys have nothing to complain about...!! My last new bird in SA was on 8 December 2010! And I don't get seasick and have probably done about 30 pelagic trips since then too... It's all relative really... I would love to get another new bird for my SA list, but who knows how long I am still going to have to wait for it... :(

Not that long in the end! :P Well done on that 905 Trevor!

I could unfortunately not rush off to see the Little Crake, but I did manage to add to my total following a trip to the Faan Meintjies reserve on Sunday. And good timing too, since we had a power outage here in Potch for a large part of the day. So a picnic lunch and a nice day of birding was a great alternative. Saw a nice variety of birds of which a few were new to me.

New total 132. Goal still 150.

New ticks at Faan Meintjies:
African spoonbill (an exciting sighting for me, but then I'm probably easily excitable  )
Kalahari scrubrobin
Pale chanting goshawk (another nice one for me)
Redbreasted swallow
Southern greyheaded sparrow
Spotted flycatcher
Yellowbilled duck
and
Red-billed quelea (Eleaser road)
Greater kestrel (Eleazer road)
Wattled starling (showed up in my garden a few days ago). :P

Theres one more I still want to try to ID, but I'll see how it goes.

Thank you Lizet! Was good to see you there aswell! Was a fantastic outing for the bird. It just leaves us with one predicament this Little crake, its not offically on the list so we might have to wait before adding it..... Not really hey!

Ok, but That was the easiest twitch I have ever had, compared to spending 4 hours sunday afternoon looking for that phantom Franklin's gull at the strandfontein water works this was a breeze. No one could relocate the gull unfortunatly!

Ok so my list has offically climbed by 4 to 524! I still need to check the validity of my hartlaub's gull and bank cormorant photo's.....

Ok the 4 lifers were:
Little Crake (Clovelly)
African Penguin (Boulders)
Spotted Eagle Owl. (Kirstenbosch botanical gardens)
Greater Flamingo (Strandfontein Sewrege Works)

I also picked up 4 photo Lifers aswell in the form of:
Spectecled Pigeon
Cape Bulbul
Maccoa Duck
Forest Buzzard (Tokai)

Ferdelance I was also looking for that Franklin's Gull at Strandfontein yesterday afternoon. Probably bumped into you without even knowing it.
