The Silent Auction was started in the second year of Cricket@Skukuza by Curious Canadian, so this will be the 5th year of running it.

The basic idea is that items are donated for the auction. They are displayed at the Cricket meet, and those present can bid on the item through the day. At the end of the day the highest bidder gets the item. (Although this year we may have a different rule or two...... )

Unlike a normal auction each item is not auctioned separately in order. There is a sheet of paper with each item. The first bidder writes down their name and what their bid is. Next bidder writes their name and the new (higher) bid……and so on through the day. If you really want something you need to keep coming back to check on the bids for that item!

It is difficult to open this to forumites who are not at the meeting because of problems with postage for example. However if you do want to take part anyway, please look at the list of forumites attending (here), and find someone who lives near you, then ask them to bid for you, and arrange collection of the item with them.

Please think of what you can donate for the auction and bring it with you or try to send it with someone who is coming to Skukuza.

To make it easier for folk to know what is on offer, and for those who cannot attend to decide whether to arrange proxy bids, please post a photo of your item here. (If you want to donate anonymously please send a photo to a mod to post for you).

I have twisted the wifes arm. I am sponsoring a set of carrol boyes bread knife, serving spoon and salad tongs. The handle is a leopard pewter. The value is in excess of R 600. I bought this when is still had money. Now I have the memories of never using it...

Where can one bid on these Items? I like the watch and necklace.....

Hi stelliegp123, these items were up on the Silent Auction this past weekend at the Cricket@Skukuza. There is still some more items to bid on in the online auction that is still running till 31 March 2012.
