Hi guys

Please advise - best route (considering we are towing) from Punda to Mapungubwe. What is the R525 onto the R508 route like? Or should we go via Punda gate and the R524 and R523 onto the N1?

Aunti Deebee, I dunno the route numbers, but Punda Gate to Machado, past the tunnel, then left to Alldays, but lotsa potholes, straight to Mapungupwe from there with great scenery, baobabs and few trucks like on the N1.

I think it is R523, But enjoy it, Mapungupwe is cool. 8)

Thanks Scips, much appreciated. Want to do the most scenic route. That is the route the garmin is showing. But I wondered about going out Pafuri gate and along that road to Mussina .... sort of that route. Do you know that way?

Aunti Deebee, the Pafuri road is Scenic enough, especially the first part, and road conditions are better, but there is only bad conditions from 13 km's in front of Alldays, and the most pleasant Baobab country.

And no Coal Mine.

:hmz: Alldays? Alldays is way past Mapungubwe.

We did the R525 - R508 - R572 two years ago. The road was fine! And the bonus is those extra kilos up to Pafuri!

I would avoid R524 through Thohoyandou. It has lots of traffic. Nothing much wrong with the road itself.

Towing?? Rather avoid T'handou!!
Go the Pafuri route and cross over.

DB we did the route the other way round Mpungubwe to mussina ( you drive on the N1only a very short distance) then we drove towards Tshipise then straight on to Pafuri Only a few potholes.
If you are camping at Mapungubwe dont take the "shortcut road" .. Ben Staat from the reception where you book in its long and is a bad state..but go right round to pont drift The R 521then turn tight onto a very very very corrugated road to the camp site . But its not that long .
There is a new shopping mall in Musina with plenty of parking and decent shops so fill up with supplies there.there is nothing from then on .
Oh do enjoy
