As mentioned in another thread, the tent I have is on special at Makro at the moment. It has 2 rooms. The entrance is big enough for SO and I to eat in, with a table.

Hi all

Does anybody maybe have a detailed camping checklist / list of everything to take for camping with tents? Or know of one somewhere on the forum. We will be camping in Satara and Lower Sabie in April this year, and althought we've camped / camped in Kruger before (for shorter periods), we are not confident that we will think of every thing to be packed.

We are not taking a caravan. Only a large tent with the kitchen-thingie attached, a gazebo and two small tents.

Thanx and enjoy your trips.

Hi all

have two lists one for tent camping/one for caravan camping. Do you want me to put them on the board or rather send a PM or go via a MOD?.

Lists are flexible , its the basics, i.e. if you have small children, some extras will be required.

also if you have special dietary requirements food may differ.

Happy camping :D :D :D

Bambazonke, I don't think it necessary to go via a mod. The choice is yours; you can either post the list up, or ask members to PM you for the list.

I am sure it will be very helpful

I agree with DinkyBird. The choice is yours. It would be nice if you can put them on but PM is also fine.

Thanx alot!

(PS! Where does your name "Bambazonke" come from? There used to be a charter boat in St. Lucia years ago by this name)

hi all

will post lists on forum

Bambazonke is a word used in countries to the north of South Africa, it has several meanings
i.e. eastern Zambia = variety
i.e. southern Zimbabwe = "take all" usually used in reference to the capital Harare, so fellow mites take your pick!

Hi All

We going to be camping for the 1st time (have always stayed in chalets) over Easter at MZNP. It can get quite cold at night there. Can electric blankets be used with air mattresses or is this not a good idea?

You should be ok, but I would just take an extra blanket.

Bartman, I'm not sure if I'd try that with mine. What you should do is put a (regular) blanket on top of the air mattress, instead of sleeping on the mattress directly. Air mattresses have very little insulation. You could also put something under the mattress to insulate it from the ground.

Hi Bartman,

We use a thermal blanket (the thin one that looks like tinfoil) as insulation and protection under the air mattress. It keeps the cold at bay and also protects your mattress against sharp objects. It is not bulky and take up very little packing space. You can buy a thermal blanket from any reputable camping store

Happy camping

Now my q, how the  do you get the storm peggs in ground that is as hard as rock. The whole weekend i was praying that the wind don't come up, we would have been runnig like the three pigs.

Some people carry an electric drill!

Also try pouring water over the area you want to put the peg in to soften the ground a bit.

@Louis, before you guy buy yourself some 6" nails. They're strong and won't bend as quick as your tent pegs. Buy enough if you are moving to different campsites.
