Pleasure BushFairy :D ..... what I have realised is that I need to take more photos if I wish to ID the flower correctly...the leaves , stems etc are just as important.
I see a pretty flower and simply forget about the rest.
I really going to try in Namaqualand to photograph the entire plant, the leaves, the stems as well as the flower...but then my eye will home in on a caterpillar and I will get side-tracked..I just know it !!!!

Hi,

The 17th of August I visited the WCNP and Postberg, when the flowering season just started. I liked it a lot and saw a lot of nice, unusual flowers. From a lot of them I could find the name on this forum, but there are some nice ones left that I would like to share with you. Maybe someone knows the names of these weird ones.

Is this also a Hyobanche?

A Gladiolus?

The next two are probably Orchids:

I have no clue on these ones, but they were very nice as well.

Hi Niek...apologies... getting down to trying to ID these flowers took a little longer than expected but the following is what I have come up ??? I do not guarantee my ID's though !!!!

#1 Cytinus sanguineus - aaardroos ( earth rose). A root parasite on a variety of shrubs in Western Cape.

#2 Babiana scabrifolia

#3 Corycium orobanchoides - Bastertrewwa . Pungently scented.

#4 Gladiolus angustus - lang pypie

#5 possibly Gladiolus undulatus - Vleipypie. Not really sure about this one !!!

#6 Limonium perigrinum or capense - Strandroos or papierblom.

As I say I am no expert ...I have merely looked through my books to find a matching picture

Thanks Caracal for searching the names! I was checking some of the names you gave me and I think you're right on most of them. I never thought about Babiana species and while surfing on the web I suddenly found two Babianas that fit better to the fifth picture: Babiana tubulosa or B. tubiflora. It is really nice that the forum works out so well.

Greetings,

Niek
