I've looked through the forum and haven't found a topic like this...so...I thought I'd make one. 8)

Anybody know what type of audio plug is on the typical South African Airways international flight?

Last year's flight from Washington, on an Airbus A346, had the typical two prong headphone plug. I`ve never seen anything else on any plane, at least in economy class. I`m almost certain that you can purchase an adapter if you want to use ear buds, as in the ones that you use for an MP3 player, with one small prong.

I fly AA (American Airlines) and BA (British Airways) traveling Boston-LHR-Cape Town (or Joburg) and both these airlines use the single-prong system, so I use my own earbuds (and usually listen to my own MP3 player rather than the onboard entertainment). I guess that may be a difference between Boeing and Airbus aircraft?

Most domestic (US) flights I take for business don't even bother with in-flight entertainment. (SW Airlines) I seemed to recall that the 2-prong connection was used on most of my international flights, but I don't really listen to music when I fly. My question is for Mrs. Stark, who wants noise cancelling headphones. To be safe, I may as well buy a 2-prong adapter just in case.

I have plugged my single prong i-pod headphones into the 2 prong socket (use either of the 2 sockets) without any trouble. It fits and it works. :)
