Hi Guys, I'm entering Punda Maria Gate in 30 days and heading down to Shingwedzi.
Is the S-99 (Mahonie Loop) a nice ride, any good sightings along it?

I loved it. We had the loop to ourselves. We saw a large herd of buffalo, lots of bokkies, a leopard tortoise, and CGF.

LS, the S99 Mahonie loop is one of the most beautiful loops there is in KNP and the sightings are very good. Lots of Nyala and Kudu and lots more. Nature there is beautiful and I am sure you will love it.

Yes its a worthwile loop , lots of interesting things on it .
Theres a type of tree that grows along there that is very rare elswhere in the park , cant remember the name anymore .

The pod mahogany tree (peulmahonie in Afrikaans) which gave the drive its distinctive name.

One of my fav roads in the Park. Kudu, Nyala, and everything else. Lots of small antelope like the Sharpe's around. There's a resident leopard, I've never seen it but it's been reported by too many people to ignore.

Make sure you have enough time. We've been fooled time and again on this road. Ag, it's short let's leave later then had to rush back in the end after having wonderful sightings. Ok, I am a Nyala fan so it's maybe not a surprise we're almost late every time!

Hi leopardspotter, according to your name I think you'll love this specific road. Yes! There is a resident leopard on "Da Loop". Only one loop in the Park and its this one.

Saw this leopard last year taking out some small mammal right infront of our eyes. My uncle and I witnessed it all by ourselves with the video cam safely at the tent in camp.

The leopard is very often seen on the loop in the 1st 7kms when you enter it from the right as you come from Punda. In other words the second entry into the loop.

Other than the leopard, this is the best place to view sharpe's grysbok. In summer the birdlife is prolific! Specials like Grey-headed parrots and Crested Guinefowl(which I yet have to tick) are seen on "Da Loop".

Elephants, Huge Buffalo herds and Nyala are almost as common as a royal flush at a drin kas much as you can card game.

Nightdrives produces Buff, steenbok, sharpe's, nightjars and if you're really lucky wood owl. I always drive to Pafuri in the mornings and then tackle this road in the afternoon. Late afternoon is best. I did quite a number of early morning drives on it too and saw some awesome sunrises!

You are very fortunate to drive this loop! Enjoy it and do take your time!

A very nice road, seen a lion, many Kudus and Birds. Lovely!

Even if you see no animals, the scenery makes this loop a rewarding drive.

I have taken this loop on a number of occasions, Christo you are spot on, regardless of wild life the scenery is amazing
