I agree with Deefstes, this thread works just fine...and as mentioned, one can just ask for help with problem birds, one doesnt have to have taken photos of them to show us.

@Cherries - Yup, that's a Dusky Flycatcher alright.
@jan46 - Your first bird is a Marico Flycatcher (I like this Flycatcher theme we've got going here :D ) and the second one is indeed a Neddicky.

This is the second last pic I have for indetification for my KNP 2010 trip. It has been driving me nuts until I began reading the Flycatcher theme on this forum and so I got the Newman and Roberts closer. I also read deetlefs closely on habitat. I'm sorry but I have no idea of the tree type but found the info useful for noting in any further trips. Will have to get a tree guide now!

The bird: taken on 23 March this year in a small tree on the road near Pretoriuskop in open bushveld. It was sitting quietly in the tree. No movement at all. No wing flicking, bobbing or calling. I snapped three photos of it and the one posted gives the best view. The forehead appears a bit streaky in the original large format of the photo- so I'll take a chance on it being a Spotted Flycatcher 689. Can anyone help please?

(And thanks to the helpers in identifying the juvenile Wattled Starling.(A new tick) I'd never had gotten that. Just from the three posts I have put on the Birding forum I have learned a huge amount about recognition and now look for things I wasn't before.)

Pete

Also think it's Spotted Flycatcher, but lets hear some confirmation from the big guns! :thumbs_up:

Spotted Flycatcher is correct :thumbs_up:

This looks a little like red-faced cisticola to me?! I have no references, but something doesnt look right for rattling, it appears too plain and the bill appears less robust and a little more decurved......what habitat was it seen in?! near a river..I hope?! :lol:
