Morning All,

I received a wake-up call at 05h00 this morning regarding the fires we are experiencing in the park (lightning fires), one of the fires were getting too close to Bitterpan and we had to make sure the guests were safe and evacuated if needed.....so at 5h20 I was on my way...didn’t see much as there wasn’t time for game viewing BUT the best part of it all was on the dune road from samevloeiing to the Auob riverbed about 1Km from the turnoff I had a AARDVARK running in front of the vehicle.

My first inside the park....I regularly see them outside the park.

It was a surprise for me as well, i tried to get a photo but it was just too fast....those things can run if they have to :P .

Regarding the fires....it is natural and has been for thousands of years so we don’t interfere but do try and keep it away from camps etc.

Hi KG,

Congratulations to the Aardvaark sighting

Could you please give us an update regarding the condition of the waterholes?
As most of the Elands seem to have moved on, I would have thought the problem with the waterholes is solved, however, from DSouter's post I gather that several waterholes are without water for several days???
Thank you.

Nina

With reference to Nina's post, firstly we should really appreciate the vastness of the Park and that that could make it difficult to get to (and fix) all the waterholes in a short period of time. The one at Nossob is however a bigger concern, being in the camp itself, as it seems to be still without water if one looks at the webcam (and per DSouter's post that has been the case for six days during his/her stay as well). So I'm curious about this question too (though I have a selfish interest at heart, in that we will be going to the Park in less than a week's time  )

Hi KG,
Welcome back :D
Could you please give us a short update regarding the condition of the waterholes?
Would be great to know if everything is back to "normal".
Are there still some of the elands around?

Have fun at the 4x4 trail.

Nina ......coming to the KTP at the end of this week

6 hours to departure! Although we will only arrive KTP Sunday morning.

Can't wait! And after 3 weeks Namibia we will come back via Augrabies. Should be fun :D

All the best, Michael

Good Morning all,

KTP received their first rains last night and it did come down in buckets, the lightning was spectacular. There is nothing better than waking up in the morning with a cool breeze and the smell of wet Kalahari soil.

Hopefully we will now start getting rain more frequent and the Eland can move back into Botswana leaving our waterholes.

KG
