KG How does this compare to last year? It will be interesting to see the level of the grass in May compared to the last few years with this years lesser (or later) rainfall

Hi there Gavin,

Up to date, we had much more rain last year than where we currently are.

One of the highlights of visiting KTP this time of the year is the beautiful cloud formations and wide open spaces. The very same clouds sometimes turn into a rolling mass of black and the lightning that follows leave me in awe. There's no place like KTP to experience this and after the storm the smell of freshness and wet soil is overwhelming to your senses. We all know that after the blessed rains every plant and blade of grass turn to a lush green.Man I love this place.

We stayed at Nossob in the guets house, and on christmas day we got the biggest present of all....

At around 4 o'clock this thunderstorm was building up in the North and was heading our way!!!
Image
I strong wind started blowing and i stired up all the dust on the road and riverbed,i was a huge dust storm and we all thought-THE POOR CAMPERS-
Image
We decided that we wanted to experience the storm and not whatch it go by...so we got in the car just after the dust storm had passed the camp and the rain was on its way!! THEN IT ALL CAME DOWN!!!!
Image
Image
Even the animals enjoyed a little shower
Image
AFTER the storm had passed us there were pools of water everywere including the road..,.

The following photos you have to look closely, the first one you will see a stroke of WHITE on the right hand bank, that is HAIL....

THe next photos were all after the storm....PS all these photos were taken in MArie Se draai...

Hope you enjoyed it!!

How fabulous and well captured.

We arrived on 27th and had no idea of what had gone before.
Thanks.

Hi Bibronsgecko,

Great capture of the storm at Nossob. We had nearly the same experience a few weeks before when we stayed at Nossob. The next day the road was closed between Nossob and TR for sedans.

From the large pools the same must have happened over Christmas. We luckily missed the hail but had enough water. Did you have any rare bird sighting after the storm like spoon bills or stilts?

Here is a link to our trip at KTP in Dec 2011

Stunning pics BG, the Kalahari storms are just something else and to be able to experience it the way you did is great.

Last night the water was so high in the Nossob road that the game drive vehicle head lights were under the water.
