Hi

Thanks Jock for posting the pics for me.
These were taken at the Cheetah project at Kapama in Hoedspruit.
Not much to say except that these are two of only 70 King Cheetah's left world wide. Sad isn't it? as they are also beautifull.

Hi Anne-marie

I saw elsewhere in the discussion about King Cheetahs and white lions, that many years ago, there was a sighting of a KC in Kruger. I am not sure where all the places are where they can still be viewed. I just know about a place near Hartebeespoortdam, Pretoria, and then at the Cheetah project in Hoedspruit. Regarding the number - the ranger in Kapama told us that there is only 70 left.
What a sighting this will not be in the wild!

Not at the moment, but the genes seem to be in the Lowveld, so I'm sure one will pop up again eventually!

Does anyone agree that sightings of Lions are these days becoming less and the sightings of cheetahs have increased?
I have seen cheetahs on every visit to Kruger since jan 2007.

Here is some of the photo's:

A very beautifull animal indeed - but my favourite is still the Leopard!!
Wish I could see them on each visit!

Mooi, Yolande!

Ironically, I have also seen more cheetahs than lions over the last year, but I don't think it's significant! :D

Where were all those pics?

Thanks Richprince

Most of the pics were taken just outside Croc Bridge, except the one of the Cheetahs bathing in the sun - that was taken at Mpondo dam, between Croc Bridge and Malelane.

Hi Leopard cut

My advice would be to drive toward Lower Sabie and then to Croc Bridge. In Croc Bridge's area there is a cheetah mom with cubs ( which are already quite big now)

Enjoy your visit,

My wife and I just returned from Kruger. We went for our first wedding anniversary. We spent seven days in the park. On the 1st September our wedding day, we travelled from satara to croc bridge. up until then we haven't seen any cheetah. A few km's south of Satara we saw two leopards at the palms. Less than a km further we saw two cheetahs walking next to the road. Spent a little time there.
We travelled further south and between Tshokwane and Lower Sabie my wife saw a cheetah standing on a ant hill. there were impala about hundred meters away. The cheetah got off and started stalking the impala.
about five minutes later the chase started. One impala ran over the road not more than two meters from our car with the cheetah on his heels. The chase was succesful and the cheetah killed it about 50 meters from the road, but unfortunately the vegetation made it impossible for us to see the cheetah feeding.

Anyway we travelled on, not believing our luck. We booked in at croc bridge and in the afternoon we went for a drive on the s28. We came across a female cheetah with four halfgrown cubs. We spent an hour watching the cubs play.
What a day!!! I don't think we'll ever forget our 1st wedding anniversary full of spotted cats. Some days you're lucky and some days you're not. I just thought I'd share this with you.

Congrats on the anniversary, Mariusc. Wow, what an awesome day you had: Cheetah and Leopards on the same day

We nearly always see either one of these animals at Croc Bridge.
Enjoy planning a next trip to Kruger so long.

In December 2005 my son and myself spend a week in knp and enjoyed every moment. In my previous posting I shared one of my photos of 2 magnifficent cheetah. Here are some more. They stopped in the road and spotted a few Impala about 60 meters away. They stood starring and eventually chose a shady spot and lay down and as you can see they never took their eyes awayfrom the impala. They in turn stood barking at the cheetah. They did not bother runnig away.I suspect that the cheetah had already had a meal and were not that interested.

They the crossed the road.
