Lourenco,

I think because it was the Lion & Rhino Park, I think the Wild Dogs were expecting food, they get very excited and aggressive when they want food. If you want to experience some really aggresive and excited Wild Dogs, then you should go to De Wildt

Elsa,

In this link it states that African Wild Dogs don't attack humans.

WOW! Snoobab thats amazing

Sometimes Wild Dogs can get very desperate for food & will try & kill anything they get they even try & kill Big Hippos, I think those Wild Dogs must've been very hungry & needed food as soon as possible or maybe they were just teasing the poor guy. Just goes to show that all animals are dangerous, wish some KNP tourists would realise that when the stand out their airroofs looking at LIT's

To date, there is not one account of Wild Dog actually killing a human being. I am not sure about Injuring, but I believe there is no record of that either.

Having said that, you never know. Nature is unpredictable, and given the right circumstances, anything can happen. Look at the Lioness that adopted Oryx calves in Kenya...

There is a pic somewhere on SANParks site taken during the 2000 floods from a helicopter. The pics is of a stranded tourist running down the H4-1 with a pack of WD right behind him. If memory serves me correct he was rescued by the helicopter but was told that he was very lucky as they were closing in on him. He apparently did not even know they were behind him.

Is anyone familiar with this pic I mentioned. I have searched the site all over and can't find the pic anywhere. If I remember it was a pic of a newspaper with the article and the photo from the helicopter.

I guess if a person or anything runs, it could possibly trigger off the "chase and kill" reflex present in all wild animals, especially predators, and that may have been why the dogs were closing in.
He was very lucky tho.

My dad waited 50 years for his first wild dog sighting in August, and it was a kill happening in front of our eyes. Howzat for reward for patience.

Wow, that is ma truly amazing and interestin story - I wonder what did prompt the dogs to attck though - maybe the floods made the capacity to hunt minimalized?

Hi All

I am new on the web and is trying to find Wild dogs.

I have been visiting the KNP for +/- 6 1/2 years and I have even seen Duke twice between Lower Sabie and Sitara, but I can not find the small dogs. I am camping in Skukuza this weekend (21\10) and would like to have some pointers where I can start to look for them and at what time approx. I will Inform you guys if I find Duke. Where and when with pics if possible.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Gert Skukuza is a great place to see Wild Dog.
- Many people see them on the road from Skukuza to Kruger Gate.
- also around the S22 south of Skukuza where they are known to Den.
- the Afsaal pack seems to have a smaller territory so it is seen quite often on the H3.
- the famous Berg en Dal Pack can be seen anywhere from the camp of the same name right past Crocodile Bridge.
- There are also dogs on the s36 north of Skukuza but they seem to spend more time west in Sabi sand wildtuin now that the fence is down.

Good Luck and I hope you come right but bear in mind these are not leopards with small territories...they move huge distances

Gert,

I have seen all my wild dogs between Pkop and Skuz. The S65 seems a nice road for luck.

Other then that, the BnD area is good as well as the S28 between Croc Bridge and LS.

Good luck!
