Thanks Oddesy and OWN. Yes totally agree, can never get enough of them. You do have an ambitious project at hand in chosing the entry gate :). All the very best, and may your daughter experience and enjoy these wonderful animals. And in the absence of a crystal ball, in my personal experience if entering from the south, go for Numbi, else Orpen if more central - I also saw a pack off the S 126.

Agree...best area of the park to see them. At least 3 packs in the skukuza area at the moment. Go south from Skukuza as well and work the roads up and down and towards Renosterkoppies and even towards Mpondo Dam. Last summer in the end of November we eventually found 2 packs and both were very active between 6-8am on over cast mornings..in fact the first cars out of the gate at 430 would usually miss them and my cousins who were there with us found them about 4 mornings in a row by leaving at 5-530...fortunately they smsd us the one time and we were not too far!

OWN holding thumbs for you...good luck!

Thanks for the advice Sandeep, Pumbaa, and O-Dog.  Much appreciated. We'll give it a full go. I like the idea of working the roads in a systematic fashion up and down - that indeed must increase the chances a lot. :D

Will also hold thumbs for you OWN.

The H11 between Lake Panic until the crossing S1 and Paul Kruger Gate might raise your changes of seeing some painted ones and then the H1-1 is also a road to drive (from Skukuza camp until Transport dam) 8)

Would love to hear all about your trip at least whether you were sussccessful

Great sighting, A-M. And with so few cars too.

Thanks also for the extra detailed advice, Pumbaa! We'll definitely be coming in Paul Kruger gate then, and timing it so that it is about an hour after sunrise. I've often driven in at gate open, only to miss the dogs, who are active about an hour or two or three later; this time I want to give it our best shot. And then, of course, I'll invite the spiritual nature guide along too, who often has a lot to do with sightings, I'm sure.

Sandeep, I'll hold you to that!!!

27 November 2011 on the H4-2 just South of Lower Sabie. They were lying next to the tar road.

29 November 2011. Quite a large group on the "corner of" the H1-1 and Napi Loop entrance.

Thanks AM,
We were very lucky this lst week. We saw Wild dogs X2, Cheetah X3, Black Rhino and of of course the Big 5. The park was very stil and we were sometimes the only or one of a few cars at sightings.

As well as Dec, Jan, Feb........ :D

Nice sightings Vlakvarkvrou  - and black rhino and cheetah to boot.... :) . Not sure if the wild dog population is doing better in recent times - hopefully it has - but sightings certainly seem to have increased.

On the dirt road from mestel dam to Phabeni gate, 2 dogs appeared alongside the car and began to decorate the road without the aid of a pooper scooper. Quite a different experience from the norm. We had them alone for about 10 mins, this one sniffing the air like a lion fleming. They set off down the road at a steady gait then went into the bush.

In 6 trips, seen wild dogs 4 times, 3 at the S1-S3 area
